- Step 2. Add vanilla, eggs, and milk at room temperature beat again until smooth.
- Step 3. Add the sifted flour with baking powder and salt, mix.

TIPS FOR BAKING THE PERFECT DUTCH APPLE BREAD RECIPE
- Eggs, milk, and butter should be at the same room temperature. Take care of this by taking the ingredients out of the refrigerator in advance. Otherwise, the mixture may stratify during whipping. If this happens, heat the mixture in a water bath, stirring constantly until smooth.
- You can drizzle lightly with lemon juice on diced apples. This will prevent them from darkening and the bread will get a lighter color.
- Use chilled butter for the topping. If you are going to knead the topping with your hands, do it very quickly so that the butter does not melt.
- Apple bread is fluffy and slightly crumbly, so it is difficult to get it out of the baking dish. I recommend lining the baking dish with a sheet of parchment so that you can easily reach the bread out of the baking dish by the edges of the parchment.
- Add a teaspoon of lemon juice to make the glaze whiter. Keep in mind this will thin your glaze, so add a little more powdered sugar to the consistency you want.
How do you make dutch apple bread moist and fluffy?
Make sure to use fresh baking powder for the fluffiness of your apple bread. It is also necessary to sift the flour, this saturates it with oxygen and the bread becomes more fluffy.
Apple slices and egg yolks add moisture to this bread. Choose large eggs with large yolks.
What apples can you use to make apple bread?
Hard and green apples are best suited for this recipe, preferably sour. Choose from Honey Crisp, Fugi, or Granny Smith. These apples keep their shape during baking and do not turn into puree.
Why is my apple bread dry?
There may be 2 reasons for this.
First, use a kitchen scale to measure the amount of flour. If you add it too much, the bread will be too dry.
Second, keep an eye on the baking time and temperature of your oven. Check the apple bread for readiness after 55 minutes by piercing the center with a toothpick. If it comes out dry and clean, your bread is ready.
Сan you freeze apple bread?
To freeze apple bread, wait until it has completely cooled down. Then wrap it in foil and put it in a zip lock bag. Store in the freezer for up to 2 months. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator before use.

Mmmmm! Made this for the first time. So easy to make yet it’s exceptional. I used honey crisp apples and left the skin on. They were tender, juicy, melt in your mouth good, skin and all. I used parchment paper and I feel like it was so much better for it. I skipped the icing (I think it’s the perfect balance of sweet as is) but added a smidge of allspice and nutmeg to the topping. It looked exactly like the picture and is light and spongey. I’ll be making more for sure!

I never baked much when I was working, but since I’ve retired, I’ve been baking a lot! My family and friends are my taste testers and this recipe is a hit! I give a lot of my baked goodies to my family and friends, so to make this delight go further I bought three 8 x 4” loaf pans and double the recipe! Works great!

This is my second time to make this bread and it’s been great both times! The first time, I made one recipe and used a 9 1/2” loaf pan. This time I wanted to make a few loaves to give to some other people, so I doubled the recipe and it was enough for three loaves. I could have a little more topping for the three loaves but they are fine. Something else I did was to butter two of the pans and use the paper on the third. The butter worked great and didn’t cause any more clean up as the pan with paper had to be washed as well!

I’ve made this a few times with fresh-picked Cortlands, and it was a huge hit every time! Moist, not too sweet (I leave off the glaze), and packed with apple flavour. A regular in my rotation now! Thanks for the recipe.

This B’Bommer loves anything Apple 🍎. However, Hubby doesn’t really love apple pie, so I’m bringing him around slowly with recipes like this. I made it as soon as I saw your recipe post. Well, 😛👏👏 it’s delicious 😋. Mine didn’t rise much, but still it’s wonderful 😊. I’m thinking of maybe using a square pan to cut more pieces. I’ll let you know if it good. Anyway, thanks for this & I’ll be checking your recipes often. 🏖Kj in Tampa Bay ❤️ 🙋🏼♀️

Bread sounds delicious! Cant wait to try it! Quick question: the recipe says to use 1/2 cup softened butter 1 cube…. I am not sure what is meant by the 1 cube. Is that a typo? Tks!
Jane
In a 1 pound package of butter, the butter is divided into 4 “cubes”, or “sticks” of butter. One half cup equal 1 of the four cubes. Hopefully that will help! Enjoy.
sewhappy
we call it a stick not a cube.

Easy recipe to follow. I used gala apples (all I had in the house) turned out very nice. Some spots were a touch dry, but I think that was my oven.
The amount of glaze was just enough
Will make again

Happy to hear that you enjoyed the cooking process, Judy!

This was a really good bread but my crumble topping sank to the bottom, I only used 1 1/2 cups of flour like so many suggested, could that have caused it? Next time should I maybe bake it half way then add the crumble? Regardless very good!
Ashley - 100krecipes
I’m sorry to hear that! Maybe you needed to cut your butter into smaller pieces. The crumble should resemble sand

Delicious! I used caramel apples leftover from Halloween and a bit less sugar. It turned out great.

I chopped caramel apples leftover from Halloween and used 2/3 cup of sugar to compensate for the extra sweetness of the caramel. It turned out great. It is a new favorite in my family.

Just tried this and it is delicious. I don’t care for nuts so I left them out and it was perfect. Thank you so much for sharing.

This was wonderful! Even my mom, who does not care much for apple desserts, really liked it! I made 2 and stuck one in the freezer. Next time I get another bushel of apples, I will be adding more of this bread to my freezer. Yum!

Hello! Thank you for the recipe. Quick question does apple bread need to be refrigerated??
100krecipes
Hi Danielle, I’m usually impatient and cut off a slice of the still-hot bread. however, it is more convenient to cut chilled bread, as it will not crumble much and the pieces will be neater.
