These Caramel Bars are one of those must-bake recipes. It does not require any special ingredients to make, you don’t need to know any fancy techniques, but they are crazy delicious, and you won’t be able to keep your hands off them.

Caramel Bars

The base of these Caramel Bars is an easy crust made from oats, flour, butter, and sugar. The middle layer is a combination of walnuts, chocolate, and tons of gooey caramel.

The bars are topped off with another layer of the crust.

Honestly, the first time I took a bite of these my mouth dropped. Chewy, sweet, and full of caramel flavor, these Caramel Bars will become one of your favorite recipes.

HOW TO MAKE CARAMEL BARS FROM SCRATCH?

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Step 2: Melt together caramels and heavy cream in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally until it reaches a smooth consistency. Set aside

  • Step 3: In a medium bowl, mix together flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt until combined

  • Step 4: Pour the melted butter into the flour mixture and mix until combined

  • Step 5: Press half of the mixture into a 9×13 baking pan, setting the other half aside

  • Step 6: Bake the crust in a preheated oven for 8 minutes until lightly browned

  • Step 7: Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips and walnuts over top

  • Step 8: Carefully pour the warm caramel over top creating an even layer
  • Step 9: Crumble the remaining mixture over top to create the last layer
  • Step 10: Return to the oven and bake for an additional 12-15 minutes until lightly browned

These bars can be stored in an airtight container and frozen for up to 3 months. Return to room temperature prior to serving

HOW TO STORE CARAMEL BARS

Store bars in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or in the fridge for up to 5 days

TIPS FOR BAKING THE PERFECT CARAMEL BARS

  1. Feel free to get creative with your fillings! Swap out walnuts for pecans, or semi-sweet chocolate for white chocolate.
  2. To get a perfect square slice, allow your bars to chill for 30 minutes in the fridge prior to slicing.
  3. Are you a salted caramel fan? Add ½ tsp salt to your caramel for the perfect salty-sweet flavor

  • 5 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ brown sugar, packed
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
