Love this recipe. Make the day before then pop it in the oven. Great for brunches. Always get comments on how creamy it tastes.
Love. Taking this dish to the family get-together. We all devour it!!
I need a meatless casserole option for Christmas brunch so decided to make this. It was a huge it, Everyone love it! Will definitely make this a Christmas tradition. 🎄
Delicious!!! added diced ham to make it a meal, left out butter by mistake but wasn’t needed.
I substitute cream of chicken with cream of mushroom soup. I also chop one whole sweet onion sauteed in 2 T. of the butter. I use the rest of the butter melted and mixed with 2 C. crushed cornflakes for the topping before baking.
It was easy and delicious!….
I made this substituting the cream of chicken soup with cream of bacon and used top the tater dip in place of sour cream. Also added shredded bacon. It was wonderful!!!😁
Made this numerous times, sometimes with my own spin
It’s always wonderful!
I’ve made this so many times. It is excellent. Thank you so much!
I made this for New Year’s Day brunch for 20 people. Everyone loved it. Super easy to quickly put together. I did sauté the onions in butter instead of using raw. This recipe is a keeper.
Delicious
I use the herb COC, and use Papa Earls (cajun seasoning) instead of the regular salt and pepper, I also add crumbled Black Label thick cut bacon. It comes out better than Cracker Barrel, and we love it. Thanks for the starter recipe.
Hi Jon! What is herb COC please? Thanks! Going to try your version with the bacon too!
It’s a herb based Cream of chicken, made by Campbell’s.
Can I use a 9×13 instead? I don’t have anything else.
I baked this longer so we could have crispy edges My family loved it 😀
Yay!! I’m so glad. Thanks for your review, Mary!!
Thus us rhe best recipe. My only changes are browning the onions in a lil butter. I use cream of celery instead. It tastes exactly like cracker barrel casserole.
Thank you for all your recipes.
Yay!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Tina! 🙂 Let me know what else you make.
I would too, crispy edges are delish!
This recipe is very good, but I don’t think Cracker Barrel uses any cream soup in theirs. This was very creamy, whereas Cracker Barrel’s is very dry – excellent, but dry.
That’s great to hear, Mary!! Thanks for letting me know. 😀
I have worked at cracker barrel for 21 years. They do use a cream base soup in there hbr, as we call it. This is spot on.
I made this last night and put in refrigerator. Today when I bake it, should it be covered in foil?
Let it cook half way with foil
Used this recipe for A Christmas Eve brunch with my wife. I Had all Ingredients on hand, except our sour cream had chives in it, Otherwise followed recipe. Cooked for 45 minutes using convection oven. I have to say, it was delicious. Not sure how it would compare side by side to Cracker Barrel, but I was able to get a much bigger serving than Cracker Barrel gives ya. Thanks for sharing. , oh, and it was easy. Love it!!!
This was simply delicious and surprisingly easy to make. Will make it often. Thanks for sharing.
Can you make this ahead of time? As in the night before?
I wouldn’t recommend it. Remember potatoes oxidize when left uncooked for too long. They might turn an unappealing brown color.
I have the same question but I would bake it the day before, then just heat up day of. Would that be something I could do, and what are the “heat up” instructions then?
I’ve made this recipe several times. I always mix it the night before and bake it in the morning. I have never had it turn brown. I mix it all up in the baking dish I use to bake it. The hash browns are covered in all the goo used in the recipe. I make it for Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day for our church breakfasts. Big hit!
Thank you for this! Was wanting to make this for church breakfast and didn’t know if I could prepare it the night before without any mishaps! Thanks so much!
This is great. We use cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken. That’s the only difference. Absolutely gets smashed never any leftovers.
I have found gluten free canned cream of chicken soup (cream of mushroom too) that is perfect for GF diets at WalMart
Made exactly as recipes instructions. Absolutely amazing. My coworkers loved it! Thank you for sharing.
My first time making this and wow it’s so yummy send my daughter the recipe she going to try it
I added one teaspoon of orange extract , 1/4 cup of honey and a cup of chopped walnuts …so yummy!
Add a TSP of Tony Chachere creole seasoning. OMG!
Made this for 100 people and added ham. It was a hit.
This was delicious! Many compliments made! I followed recipe but cut back to 6-7 tbsp. butter and half an onion, just my preference but don’t think it made much difference as it was delicious! Thank you!
Excellent!!!! I’m going to try this with ham next
This is my husband’s favorite. I have added ham or sausage to it also. Never tried the bacon or cream of bacon soup so that’s next. Your recipe is the best. We love itt. Thank you for sharing.
Hi. If u like the bacon flavor, add a T of bacon grease to it. I’ll save my bacon grease in a small jar in the frig. It’s good for putting a little bit on your burgers or scrambled eggs. U want the brown bits that’s full of flav ✌️🥔🧅🥓🍔🥚
Thanks for the tip! I plan to make for Christmas!
Made this casserole this morning while on vacation at lake. All ten people committed how good it was. This is a keeper.
I tried this dish and WOW I cannot get enough of it. We now have this as a weekly dish. I add cut up cheese filled sausage to it and it’s the BOMB. We love this dish.
This was awesome…the only changes that I made was I use cream of bacon soup because I didn’t have the cream of chicken soup. I would this bacon soup again because it was awesome.
Oh my gosh I can’t get enough of this casserole!! It is the absolute bomb!! I cook for my husband and 26 y/o son and we eat this as the main course for dinner. I have other ingredients to make it into a breakfast casserole but I can’t bring myself to change a thing because it’s so good!! LOL
I give it 5 stars, more if I could!!😉
