Pecan balls cookies is a simple recipe for delicious cookies from available ingredients. All you need is flour, butter, sugar, vanilla, nuts, and powdered sugar (if you like).
I note right away that for a quick result it is better to involve assistants. You will have to roll over 50 balls. The kids will especially love this idea. And the buttery and crumbly result will delight everyone.
PECAN COOKIE BALLS INGREDIENTS;
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- Powdered sugar 1 cup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
HOW TO MAKE PECAN BALLS COOKIES WITH POWDERED SUGAR?
- preheat oven to 400 F, line a baking tray with a sheet of parchment.
In a large, deep bowl, combine sifted flour, chopped nuts, softened butter, sugar, and vanilla. - Thoroughly mix everything with a fork until a homogeneous crumbly mixture. Despite the friability of the mixture, when squeezed in the palm of your hand, it should stick together. If the dough is too crumbly, add another spoonful of butter and stir again with a fork.
- Form the dough into 1-inch balls.
- Place the balls on the prepared parchment paper. Bake for 10-13 minutes.
- Remove the cookies from the oven, cool. Fold the balls into a ziplock bag, add the powdered sugar, close the bag, and shake.
If the cookies are slightly damp after baking and have absorbed all the powdered sugar, wait until they have cooled completely and dust with the powdered sugar again.
Bon appétit!
CAN YOU FREEZE PECAN BALL COOKIES?
You can freeze pecan balls cookies with powdered sugar in two stages.
- First: after you have formed balls of dough, put them on a cutting board or flat dish, then in the freezer. When the balls are frozen, pour them into a large lidded container or ziplock bag and store them in the freezer.
- Second: cool the finished balls with powdered sugar completely, pour them into a ziplock bag, and put it in the freezer.
- Let them thaw in the refrigerator before use, then at room temperature.
HOW TO STORE PECAN BALLS COOKIES
These powdered balls keep great at room temperature in a container with a lid. The lid is necessary so that the cookies do not become damp at high humidity, or turn into a crouton at low humidity.
Cookies are perfectly stored for a month. The shelf life can be extended by keeping the cookies in the refrigerator.
TIPS FOR BAKING THE PERFECT PECAN COOKIE BALLS
- For a more budget recipe, butter can be substituted for margarine.
- Use any nuts: pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds.
- Use a measuring cup or kitchen scale to ensure that the proportions of the ingredients are as accurate as possible.
- If you understand that the dough does not stick well, add another spoonful of butter and mix everything well again.
- 10-13 minutes bake is enough for 1 inch balls. If the cookie size is smaller or larger, the baking time will also change.
- If the first layer of powder sugar is softened by the condensation of the not yet cooled cookies, wait until the balls have completely cooled down. Then sprinkle them with powdered sugar again.
